jcrawf02 (1/29/2013)I've been farming for post count, and I gotta say, it's really confusing because I can't tell where you're supposed to go cash in all these points for better armor...

Posting on this thread ipso facto equals farming for post count. Anybody know where I can get the "underground post count farmers" hack?

No, but I could provide you with contact information for some of my nephews who'd be glad to post here for you. All for the low, low price of $1 a post.

Hmm, maybe I should just have them post for me...

  • Not as scary as the brain surgery for Stefan's friend but my wife is having total shoulder replacement surgery in the morning. Her mom is coming out for a couple weeks to help around the house and to let me get back to work. I will be out for at least the next day or so. See you all in a couple days.

    Good luck!

My friend seems to be recovering well so far.

Heh. Another forum I'm on (game related) had a "never ending thread" that got up into the 10s' of thousands of posts. Which then started crashing the forum software, in part because they also allowed people to attach images...

Now, you want a topic that would *really* generate some responses, start a Star Trek vs Star Wars topic, or go into an RPG forum and start discussing the merits of one edition of game rules vs another edition of the same (Say AD&D v2 vs AD&D v4)

Interesting that the very next xkcd strip touched on this very phenomenon:

  • I have to share my excitement. I taught a class here at work to help employees prepare for the Microsoft 70-461 test. So far 6 people have taken it... and all 6 passed! The perfect streak won't last forever, but wow I am so stoked! I know it doesn't mean I'm a good teacher (correlation<>causation, particularly in THIS CASE!), some of them only needed the motivation to study a little and actually take the test, but it probably means I'm not a BAD teacher! And I'm way happy for them. Certification hasn't been a goal for anyone up until this, now it is generating some excitement and interest. I've been telling them how good they are (at SQL and working with SQL Server), now they can no longer deny it. WOO HOO! Time to come up with a good party.

Hmmm, taking students? I'd love to work on getting the SQL2012 certification soon.

Although the drive from Detroit to Utah would be a bit much...

Detroit? Do you attend the local PASS meetings? Do I know you and am just missing the connection?

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.
"Change is inevitable... change for the better is not".

That would be awesome, but I don't think I'm quite the caliber to travel for though.

My mantra: No loops! No CURSORs! No RBAR! Hoo-uh![/I]

My thought question: Have you ever been told that your query runs too fast?

    My advice:
INDEXing a poor-performing query is like putting sugar on cat food. Yeah, it probably tastes better but are you sure you want to eat it?
The path of least resistance can be a slippery slope. Take care that fixing your fixes of fixes doesn't snowball and end up costing you more than fixing the root cause would have in the first place.
