    Yes but why would you???

    the only issue you should find is the run command shortcut 'ssms' will always open the 2012 instance of ssms rather than 2014.

    I have multiple clients using express editions in production environments.

    Despite the restrictions there don't appear to be any issues as long as they stay below the 4-10gb database size limit....

    I guess I may have left out one very important piece of information....an application is generating the query.

    The user is presented with a grid and several parameter (where) fields.....problem is...

    sounds like the database you are having issues with could still be backing up at the same time you are trying the rename the file from 01 to...

    There are no really good DBA's or Developers that have not messed up some system or database so badly that they had to come up with creative ways to...
