    WOTD - paraprosdokian

Define, please. Dictionary.com can't find that one.

A figure of speech that uses an unexpected ending to a series or phrase. For example:

“The car stopped on a dime, which unfortunately was in a pedestrian’s pocket.”

“Where there’s a will, I want to be in it.”

•"Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana." — Groucho Marx

•"I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my father, not screaming and terrified like his passengers." — Bob Monkhouse

•"I haven't slept for ten days, because that would be too long." — Mitch Hedberg

This also includes the “humourous triple”, where two or more leading things in a sequence establish a pattern, with the last item being something unexpected.

www.onelook.com found this one and eleutherophillist. It indexes a whole TON of online dictionaries and is usually where I start when I need to find the meaning of a word.

It's also great because it will list any specialized definitions. So if you're looking for a computer term, you can skip all the normal stuff and go straight to the good stuff.

Whoo, hoo. Three more somethings (posts? visits?) and my "visits" end up being the same as the year.
