Are the exams intended to actually reflect real world scenarios. I'm thinking is access to reference materials permitted. I can imagine the exams would be somewhat more demanding if not, and perhaps more affected...

I think it's safe to say you can't beat real world testing scenarios.

Have you tried benchmarking the machines to check they really are the same spec.
