Go for 2 solution. Just don't forget to take backups before performing upgrade.. I would advise not to detach, but restore databases on SQL2012SP2. Restore would assist system tables upgrade...

You do not need tempdb ndf file as large as you can make them. It is more than enough to put as 50 mb each. They will expand as much...

Microsoft recommend unlimited growth for temp databases.
Initial size should be 50 MB for all temp dbs with 500MB file growth with unlimited Max Growth. hope it helps
