Your right, we have spiraled of the subject a little but, in a good direction.
Everybody, don't think I haven’t noticed each and every persons very choice wording and underlying joking jibes/ sarcasm etc. hu “tantalizing”, I ask you.

To make it easy (and get back to the subject) ... I'd use Access ! Realistically why would you waste SQL server on a really small single user database. Or ... design it in Access then use the 'Upsizing Wizard' if you are that 'bent' on using SQL Server ... just my closing thoughts ...

Sorry to digress again..Yesterday when this post was posted there were no replies all day and suddenly the thread runs into 2 pages over night..??. I think there is hardly any post in these forums that goes unanswered...which is why I am freqenting these forums now..the other forums I visit often (ASP.NET forums) have plenty of posts that just go down the drain seeking help ..( I would have helped if I could have) ..looks like there is a good amount of activity in here.

This would make a good "academic exercise" to teach yourself database design using MS Access. Check the MS Office Templates area on the MS web site. They have several collections templates (books, movies, music...) and might have one on wine as a starting point.
But if you just want the software, there are several shareware wine cellar applications out there on the web. I've been playing around with Cellar! (http://www.cellarwinesoftware.com/) and really like it. Now I just have to decide if I'd rather spend the money on the license (so I can enter more than the 12 items allowed by the trial version) or on a couple bottles of Califonia Cabernet!!
BTW, Frank: I hear the weather in Germany in 2003 was extraordinary and reviewers are calling 2003 the best German vintage since the 1500's!! I'll drink a toast to you with the next bottle of Riesling I open!! (Lucky guy - You aren't paying U.S. import taxes on it!!)

Hey when your done with this you could port it to Pocket PC and have it with you for those trips to the wine store, when you can't remember if you liked that brand last time you had it.

I've taken CAGreensfelder's advice and had a look at the MS templates. There's a Access wine database that with a little work will do what I want, so I think I'll use that.

Yes, 2003 was really an extraordinary year. I don't know, if the best since 1500, but I recall reading it was at least the best in the 50 years.
How much is that tax?
