Will there be any data loss?

  • Good Morning Experts,

One of my database is in suspect state. The database's ldf file is damaged but mdf file is available. Can we run the emergency/repair_allow_data_loss command to get it out of the suspect state. Will there be any data loss?

  • Maybe.

    Maybe.

    Got a good backup?

  • Hi Gail,

The mdf file is available. So there shouldnt be any data loss, correct?

  • Incorrect. As Gail says, have you got a backup?

The pages in memory are not hardened to the physical data file immediately. But the log file will track every changes to guarantee that your database is consistent.

So restoring from a backup is the best idea.

Mean while look through all your logs to find out what happened
