updating column data between SQL and EM

  • Greetings,

I have a column field that is varchar(6400). I have tried to copy and paste text into a particular row of this column using Enterprise Manager and it does not take the full text, however when I use the update function, SQL allows the column row to be updated with the full text. This is not holding me up on anything, but I am just curious about it. Obviously, the max row size of 8000 bytes is not being affected since using the update function worked. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Apparently EM only supports pasting of up to 1024 chars.

    This limitation is seriously under-documented.

There's no workaround that I know of.

  • What about if you have an existiny rowentry of lets 1010 characters, and I would like to paste in 30 additional characters. Will EM allow this to happen?

  • I don't think so. I tried it with no success.

  • It's a limitation of the GUI. Personally I would stick to a front end app for data entry or use QA if you have to do an adhoc insert.
