Unable to open Activity Monitor (error msg. 4502)

  • When I use Management Studio to connect to my SQL Server 2005 server, and attempt to launch Acitivity Monitor I get a pop-up message that says

"View or function master.sys.dm_exec_sessions has more column names specified than columns defined".

I  understand that this type of message with regard to views, ordinarily means that a base table(s) that the view queries has changed.  But this is the master db and nothign has changed there.  I checked the ddl_log table and it shows nothing of significance (only a couple of new logins being created for example) has changed in the master db.

The SQL Server is at SP 2 level, and has been for several weeks.

I've scoured the internet for this and came up empty.

Has anyone ever come across this issue?

I'll appreciate any help that can be offered.

    Thanks!

  • Haven't heard the issue, but did you also apply the patch to the Management Studio system?  (I am assuming they are not one in the same)
