The one thing that holds SQL Server back is the cost of licensing. The one thing that holds Postgres back is the lack of community and documentation, it's not at the level of SQL Server.
And the two things that hold Oracle back are the insane costs and New Zealand... 😛

JavaScript and LINQ are just window dressing for SQL, just like in the construction industry stucco is dressing for (not a replacement for) solid brick.
