temporary back file

  • Hi

    I'm new to SQL Server.

Could anyone tell me why you would want to create a temporary back up file (instead of a permanent one)?

  • If you are meaniing a backup file other than the normal full backup (I call them 'special' or 'one-time' backups'), there are a few reasons. DB upgrades, software upgrades and application upgrades just to name a few.

  • shipping a database to another site without breaking the backup chain locally. SQL Server 2005 supports the "one off" kind of backup but 2000 doesn't.
