  • Yes, the no hitter was pretty cool.

And a little bit of controversy to go with that one as well. 😉 I caught the Rockies Mariners game a couple weeks ago on tv where Kevin Millwood was throwing a gem, I was surprised he is still in the league. It looks like he's having a respectable season so far this year though.

  • A-Rod ties Lou Gerhig for grand slams. http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/story/_/id/8045125/new-york-yankees-third-baseman-alex-rodriguez-hit-23rd-career-grand-slam-tying-lou-gehrig-most-all-time

Does A-Rod get to 714? I think 660 is easy, possibly this year, but 714?

36 years old, 18 in. 639 now, on pace to hit about 652-655 this year + post season.

After this year he'd need 2 good seasons or 3 sub-par ones.

Good question Steve.... I don't know... Depends on his health probably more than anything. As he gets older his body won't be able to be out there playing as much... although they could slot him into the DH spot too.

I forget how many more years he has on his contract.... 5 or so? I really don't remember.

Isn't that most of the Yankees lineup these days?

Assuming he stays healthy (which, I realize is always a big if), I say he reaches 714. I agree -- he doesn't have to lead the league each year; he just needs a few "average" seasons, and he's there.

Here's one: will anyone ever match Sadaharu Oh's record of 868?

Speaking of which, I once read that several major leaguers who saw Sadaharu Oh said that, even though the Japanese leagues play in smaller parks, many of his home runs would have been out of a lot of parks in the States. Interesting to speculate: how well would he have done had he played on this side of the pond?

Way too many things different here. Would he adjust to being in the US with all of the reporters following him around... the one great pitcher that came here under great fanfare... can't remember his name that signed with the Dodgers and had that odd delivery in the mid 90s didn't last long. Ballparks diff and would the hitters adjust to him and would he adjust to them?

Hideo Nomo. He pitched in over 300 games over a 12 year career. Nothing stellar and probably not up to all the hype he got coming over, but it was a respectable career.

More to it than the size of the park. Crowds are different, pitching, it's a larger stage, I think he'd have done well, but no 800.

Arguably the same thing with Babe Ruth, not facing many Negro league pitchers or Latin pitchers.

Wow. How many no-hitters does that make this year? I've lost track!

Also, I assume that's SF Giants history, yes? I think Carl Hubbell threw one for the Giants when they played in NY.

  • Had to post this . . .

I have tickets for the Yankees vs. Chicago White Sox on 6/30 (two weeks from this Saturday).

I recently looked at my tickets. I knew they were in the bleachers, but what I didn't know (until I took a closer look) was that they're in the same section as the Yankee Stadium Bleacher Creatures!!!

Oh man, this is going to be fun!!!!!!!!!

Probably not so much fun for my wife though! I'm married to a Red Sox fan!!!

    :w00t::hehe::-D

Pretty sure Hubbell's was a no-no, not a perfect game. Check out http://sanfrancisco.giants.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/index.jsp?gid=2012_06_13_houmlb_sfnmlb_1&mode=recap_home&c_id=sf

I was bouncin' around, cheering in the kitchen after the last play...my 3 year old daughter just happened to be awake and started dancing and cheering with me. Good memory to go with the game.

Cain certainly is deserving, he's been rock solid on a team that has rarely supported him with runs. The article and game highlights are worth a look...the Blanco catch in the alley was amazing. I was puckered watching the last play to third.
