SSIS connecting to IDMS

  • Has anyone ever used SSIS to pull data from IDMS? I don't have any knowledge of IDMS, and can't find much info doing a google search. Are their special IDMS drivers? If so, does anyone know where I can get it?

  • If there's an ODBC driver for IDMS, you could use that one to connect to the IDMS system.

  • I think you're referring to the IDMS product from Computer Associates. There's some information at http://www.ca.com/us/products/detail/CA-IDMS.aspx that states it does support ODBC, but I have no specific knowledge of connecting to an IDMS data source.

  • I think for IDMS (an a lot of other IBM mainframe datbases - Adabas, VSAM, IMS, etc) you need to use a third-party ODBC driver to access the data. We always use tcACCESS from BOSSoftware, but there are others out there as well. tcACCESS (and I'm guessing other ODBC drivers as well) require some setup work on the mainframe, so you will probably need to involve the IDMS DBA in your project.

  • Thanks everyone for your responses. I really appreciate it.

  • I have over 30 years experience with IDMS and have been migrating IDMS sites to SQL Server for a decade. Please contact me offline for further details.
