Hi Guys,
I am new to BI!! Please help me here.
I am using SQL 2005 Standard Ed, and I clearly remember that I have included all the components of SSAS, SSIS, SSRS while installing SQL 2005 on my standalone Vista laptop.
But when I open SQL Server Mgmt Studio, instances of SSAS, SSIS, SSRS are all missing, only the Database Engine instance available for me to connect.
The "Server Name" drop down box is available for Database Engine only.
Do you know why SSAS, SSIS, SSRS instances are all missing? Can I create or install them so that I can connect???

Are you sure everything was properly installed and is running properly? You might want to verify the log output from your installation - C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Setup Bootstrap\LOG.
I would also check your services to see if they are setup and running for SQL Server Reporting Services and Integration services. For SSRS you would type in http:///reportserver to connect. From the sounds of it this might not have installed and you would need to make sure you had IIS installed and running along with the .NET 2.0 framework I believe.

I am not 100% sure I have install SQL 2005 - BI component properly.
Let us assume it's not.
Can you please list things I need to re-install? only IIS-7 needed to be re-installed?
Anything else??

Take a look at the following reference - Hardware and Software Requirements for Installing SQL Server 2005. If you are just getting started though with SQL Server I would highly recommend looking at SQL Server 2008 instead at this point.
You might also want to check out this information since you mentioned IIS 7 - Considerations for Running SQL Server 2005 on Windows Vista and How to install SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services on a Windows Vista-based computer.

I have been playing around with SQL 2005 for a while, but not so its SSAS IS RS components.
thanks for ur advice, I have got SQL 2008 Standard Ed disc handy, and I will remove SQL 2005 competely and install SQL 2008 in no time!!

Sounds good. Just an FYI, SP1 for SQL 2008 was recently made available and you will want to get that loaded up - SQL Server 2008 SP1 Available and Install Experience – build 2531.
