SQL Server 2012 Express edition installation error!

  • Hello,
I'm urgently trying to install SQL server express onto my Windows 7 laptop (x64) but keep receiving the setup error detailed at the end of this post.

    Things I've tried:
    * I previously had SQL Server 2014 Express on my laptop but uninstalled it a few months ago. I've gone through and removed & uninstalled anything to do with SQL Server, though I'm wary that this doesn't mean it's gone-gone, but I didn't think this would prevent an install of 2012 ex.
    * Repair VC++ Redistributable. Then tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it. Version on my laptop is 2010 if that matters.
    * On the advice of a friend I tried reverting the .NET framework back to 3.5

The above hasn't changed the nature of the error message unfortunately.

Does anyone have any ideas? I'm pretty desperate!

This looks like the same issue as this:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/2688946/fix-error-message-when-you-install-sql-server-2012-the-identities-of-t
There is workaround mentioned in the link.

    Still the same problem 🙁

  • Have you tried the 64 bit version?

It can be either, but I'm getting exactly the same problems when I downloaded 2014 to try.

    Yep, that's what I'm using.

So you might want to try the 2 bit version then, this part of the message "processorArchitecture="x86",type="win32"'" indicates that there may be a problem with the cpu architecture.

Hey sorry for late response, didn't get an e-mail for this post for some reason.
I've tried this but still get exactly the same error.
