SQL Server 2005 books

    Hi Fellas,

    I am working as a software developer on the .NET 2.0 platform and SQL Server 2000.

    My front end skills are good but I want to enhance my database or back end skills.

    The reason is that I have done my BE in Chemical Engineering and then I joined an IT firm. I studied ASP.NET and C# of my own.

    The book I refer for these topics are C#: The Complete reference and ASP.NET unleashed.

    Can you suggest me some books which would help me in enhancing my T-SQL programming and SQL Sever 2005 programming and which cover the basics.

    My aim is to become a Database Developer.

    I have gone through many SQL Server 2005 books but these do not cover the basics.They simply explain the new features of SQL 2005 making an prior assumption that the reader knows all the basics.

    I'm quite fond of the Inside SQL Server 2005 series from Solid quality Learning. They're not beginners books though.

    I'd pick up any of Itzak Ben-Gan's books on T-SQL. That will help.

    I agree with Steve. I have picked my copy of "inside TSQL programming" and "Inside TSQL querying" a few months back.

    I agree as well.

    All 4 books of the "Inside SQL Server 2005" series will help in creating a solid foundation, but to focus on your goal of SQL Development I would suggest the "T-SQL Querying"and "T-SQL Programming" at a minimum.

    Also, a search on Amazon.com for "T-sql programming" will return 285 results. Books with a "look inside" graphic on them allow you to view the table of contents of the books. I would use that as determining factor, based on what aspects of SQL Server database programming will be right for you.
