SQL Maintenance Plan - ''Delete Old Backup Files...''

  • Hello,

I have an error that occurs intermitently on ALL my SQL 2000 Servers (it even occurred at 7):

       - The nightly Backup Maintenance Plan(s) run fine then all of sudden for a day or multiple days, it can not delete the previous nites backup. The error is: "[3] Database PRInet: Delete Old Backup Files...

Unable to delete file E:\MSSQL_Backup\PRInet_db_200509281900.BCK.    0 file(s) deleted."

      - What is the problem?

      • It was created by the previous nites backup
      • It is on a local disk without compression
      • No tape drive is involved.
      • I can manually delete it.
      • Maintenance Plan is run as 'sa'
      • Win2K Event viewer only reports that an error occured
      • SQL Server Logs only mention that the backup ran
      • The backup is usable, no corruption.

I've searched here and the web and I found a people reporting the error but no one has an explaination or fix.

      Thanks,

          Arthur

    • Maybe some other process is still holding on to those files?

      Regards, Jim C

    • Nope, no other processes use this file.

Its just created and left until the next night.

      Thx though.
