SQL 2008 (R2)? (10.50.xxxx) backup and restore

  • Firstly sorry if this has already been asked but I've spent the last 2 days looking for an answer and no luck as yet.

I have a 2008 Db and am receiving a backup from a third party as we are migrating an application and bringing it in house. Prior to the application going live , the 3rd party will be providing the last backup which we will be restoring into our in house application db. The issue is however that within our in house db, we have specific permission's and Stored process that do not exist within the backup provided.

Is it possible to only perform a backup to restore the data or will we need to create a new DB , load the backup then copy data across?

    Any ideas greatly appreciated.

  • Since the requirement is to retain some of the data in the original database, the best option is to restore the backup provided by the vendor on to a new database. Then you can copy data from the newly created database as and when required.
