SP3 Open forum

  • Hello to all. I was just wondering if the site has open a forum for the new SP3 (Beta still)

I run into a bunch of problems.

The intention for this short note is to open an exchange of experiencies with the new SP3, if any one have any.

Like uninstall the SP3 if needed (what a pain so far, you need to uninstall your SQL 2K instance in order to get rid of the SP3 and then reiinstall SQL 2k - SP's and resore your master, msdb and model to get back to where you were before!!)

The onwership option to change the db owner. and so on. Just an idea to open a forum in this matter. Thank you

    Good Luck!

  • I think its still in pre-release and under NDA. You can post to the MS groups for now, once released we'll have some coverage.

  • If you go to the beta site, there are instructions on how to get to the newsgroups, both through NNTP (through a client such as Outlook Express) and through the web interface.

If you haven't already associated a Passport account with your BetaID, you'll need to do that now that they only using Passport to log in.

  • Thank you both. We are part of the beta trials for Microsoft and we have been sending all the bugs we have found so far.

I just thought it could be a good idea to open a forum for anyone interested.

Of course, we all will have time, when the SP3 is realeased, to cover the process and I will learn, as much as I have so far, by coming in to SQL Server Central.

    It was just an idea.

  • It would be nice, but Microsoft pretty much restricts discussion of beta products to approved forums (AKA under their control). That keeps an anticipating public from hearing news about a new feature then getting upset when its not there (if they couldn't make it work).

  • Got it Brian. I will keep my mouth shot!! LOL, I am just kidding!!

Seriously, I understand their point. I will keep on sending the bugs to them. Even though they are already in the second editon of this SP3, I think they will release the SP in a couple of months. Still too much to do. Thank you for your input.

Have a great 2003, to you and all at SQL Server Central!

  • SP3 has been released! Anyone know any info on whether all issues have been fixed?

  • Any specific issue you have in mind. ALl in the fix list seemed to test out fine along with revisions made thru 1 and 2. But I did find some stuff that doesn't work like should and reported that are not in SP3. Hopefully SP4.
