schedule DTS Package through a job -- please help

  • Hi,

I have a DTS Package and now i want to schedule that package through a Job. Can any one let me know how to do that. I know that we can schedule the package by right clicking on the package. But i am planning to set it up as a job and i dont have any idea as to how to accomplish it. I saw online that we can do it with DTSRUNUI utility but can any one let me know the steps as to how to do it? In my job steps i want the command to be encrypted some what like this DTSRun /~Z0xC2D297FBFA8CB6CD1F54C5B1837EEC89DD250495B9DECDAAC1B04C6F752FB6D28BDA0BDB858006F1E7C1FDE023B97F87054900C492A07A86AF2CC7547675CEFCD54C6E0AE006AD71CEF54B67F12D027EFEA3EFA1D69CAD1CED74A75B58252B23A80973DC36A0499D670C0F00DF65BDDA5CCCDB05583AFD9B22BC2E3D9BF621FF1B928BC3955E612F2BC5EB80678F6DC14A0DCF0D62968677429972CFD838A69F6517E9

If i run the dtsrunui utility in the command prompt do i get this command. please let me know. Thanks

  • You should be able to just right-click the package in EM and select "Schedule Package". That's how I've always done it. It will create the job for you and then you can edit the job if you want to do more.

  • Thanks for the reply. does it create a job under SQL Server agent -> jobs folder when we right click and schedule the package

  • hey thanks a lot i got it!! i can see it in the Jobs tab.

  • BTW Pinky, you CAN use dtsrunui to get the DTSRUN command either encrypted or not.  It's particularly useful if you're adding a package run step to an existing job.
