Hi
My problem is as follows:
I have a dump file from a SLQ 2000 server with sp3a running in Windows 2000 SP3 from our production database
I would like to load/restore this file onto our new
Windows 2003 Cluster with SQL 2000 SP3a.
My steps so far:
1) restore as database 'I type the name of the database
to restore'
2) from device, select devices, Add, browse to file,
select file, ok, ok, ok
3) options, force restore over existing database, change
physical filename (and path), leave database operational
4) display says: restoring
5) after two blue blocks display says Restore of
database 'name of database' completed succesfully
6) in enterprise manager the database shows up grey with
the text (loading) behind the name
After 15 hours of waiting the database was still in loading condition. (for 1200Mb and a SAN, this is not ok!)
What makes this all very strange?
1) The same dump file on a non cluster Windows 2000
server and SQL 2000 SP3 the file restores fine
2) The same dump file on a non cluster Windows 2003 server and SQL 2000 SP3 the file restores fine
3) Smaller databases (5Mb) on de cluster restores fine!
4) A medium database (appr. 700Mb) restores fine
sometimes, and sometimes not!
I cannot find any article or similar descriptions on the
Internet so far, and I am getting really frustrated!
Does anyone have a clue or must I contac Microsoft right
away?

Maybe for recovery completion state you chose ...able to restore additional thansaction logs. So after ...completed successfully, waiting for you to restore transaction log.
If you don't have transaction log to restore, from QA run restore database (dbname) with recovery. Then the database will be operational.

have you checked SQL's errorlog and NT event log?
