refreshing excel pivot table from ssis

  • Hi All again. Update on where I am as I still need exampled help please.

I have successfully converted 3 DTS packages (17 steps into one SSIS package that runs and even manages to retrieve the same set of data as the original!

The Excel spreadsheets have been turned on for ' refresh on open' but now they have changes their mind!

I'm back to trying to replicated the accessdb app that opens each spreadsheet, refreshed it and emails it to a bunch (thanksfully small) of users.

The reason they do this is

    1) didn't want to confuse the users with auto refresh on open concept!

    2) needed to keep a historical set of the data sent out to the users in previous weeks

    3) and in case users go on leave and miss out a week, if they had the historical sheets they could email those

What I need now is a process (not necessarily activeX script) of

    1) opening an excel spreadsheet ( I can keep the refresh on open here)

    2) save it as anotherfile name (something with the date on it) into another directory

    3) email that saved file to the user

Its somewhat less complicated than before as I would like to keep the 'refresh on open' - as I have now managed to get the report date on the sheets so it all works fine

So in a nut shell I just wanna be able to open it, save it and email it!

    thanks
