QOD 12/17/03

  • I feel sorry for this company. They just fired the top 5% of their salesmen:

    Correct Answer:

    SELECT TOP 5 PERCENT FIRST_NAME, LAST_NAME

FROM Sales ORDER BY TOTAL_SALES DESC

Since ordering by DECENDING sales will put the top salesmen first on the list.

  • You' right! And also feel sorry for the people that missed out on those two points... okay, mostly because it would be my first two points!

  • So for those of us that actually answered the right option "None Of The Above" won't get our dearly earned points.

Not that i'm worried with a 47% rate after a hundred or so questions 🙁

  • Whew - I thought I was the one confused by ascending and descending, it's actually the answer that's incorrect...

  • I guess that they couldn't give us our 2 points anyway. They probably couldn't get the SQL correct! 🙂

  • hahaha good call iplman 🙂

  • I just started a company, i'd like those 5 salesperson to join my company!!!!!.

  • Yes Tom

Even i feel sorry about the current answer. I even can't imagine that a site like SQLServerCentral can approve questions like this.

  • Quite disappointing that such a gross blunder slipped through.

On the other hand, it does not happen often, and, if we're honest, it may even add to the pleasure of trying our skills every day with the Question.

  • Wrong "correct answer", but right Explanation...

QOD is getting worse every day. Yesterday it was a minor mistake about an underline, today is a huge difference between DESCending and ASCending.

Needless to say that I answered "None of the above" and... I want my points back !

  • While I agree that the last two QODs were poorly formulated, I would like to invite everybody who complains to sit down and submit their own QODs.

Some time ago I said I am about to do so, but I tell you what might look easy, turns out to be a really difficult and frustrating task. Complaining is easier.

  • Agreed, complaining is easy. But when you claim to be the largest sql community on earth, it looks silly not to live upto those standards.

It is not just QOD. Some of the articles (even written by site owners)that are being published lately are pretty poor too.

  • Phew, I'm not going mad then. But I agree most of the questions are a great way to start the brain in the morning.

  • A missing character is a typo error.

The difference between asc and desc is something else.

As a lot of my colleagues noted, the so called correct answer is wrong.

Please change this QOD as fast as possible with appologies to the members. Everybody can make mistakes. But please correct it!

I don't care about the points, but some people might think they answered right, while they were wrong.

These kind of errors may reflect on the community.
