Parallel execution on 2 processors rather than 4.

    Currently running on 4 cpu's 500 MHz and we're looking to upgrade to 2 cpu's 3.2 GHz.

    Because of budget costs how will this effect performance with the loss of parallel execution going to 2 cpu's? 

    Does parallel query execution matter anymore once you migrate into GHz speed?

    My 'gut' feeling is that you'll be OK based on the fact that the new CPUs are 6+ times faster than the old ... and if they are Xeon CPUs, then with hyper threading on it will appear to your server that youy have 4 CPUs instead of 2.
