Oracle OEM grid for SQL Server Monitoring

  • Hi Friends,

Currently I am working on Oracle OEM grid for SQL Server Monitoring.

As per the client requirement, he want all the alerts & Databases( SQL & ORACLe) need to monitored from one central monitoring tool, i.e. OEM Grid.

I am new to Oracle, so can you share your inputs (like OEM Grid installation prerequisits for SQL server, SQL alert configuration in OEM, SQL Server monitoring setup in OEM)for configuring the OEM Grid for SQL Server monitoring.

    Thanks in Advance.

    Regards,

    Mohan

  • I've just recently set up Oracle Enterprise Manager 10.2.0.5 GRID control and the SQL Server plugin needed to monitor the SQL Server instance, here's some of my experience:

    If you're using Windows Server 2008, you'll need OEM 10.2.0.5, not 10.2.0.4.

To monitor the database, you'll need a SQL Server login

To monitor the OS, you'll need a local Windows account

The Oracle documentation that comes with the install media is very robust, but can be intimidating. Just follow it line by line. This link isn't bad:

    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B16240_01/doc/nav/products.htm

On Oracle metalink, there's multiple doc on installing the SQL Server plugin.

I'm guessing you'll get more replies to this question if you posted in the "Working with Oracle" section. Maybe an admin will move it.

  • Hi All,

I have a similar requirement. Did you end up setting SQL Server monitoring using OEM. I am skeptical to install monitoring agents on SQL Server box.

  • We're still using OEM for SQL Server monitoring, using version 10.2.0.5. It works but I find different nuances every week.

Follow my links from above, the Oracle documentation is good.

I'm finding that reporting is difficult though, don't know if that's going to be a major requirement for you.
