New Instance

    Hi All,

    I need to create a new instance of SQL Server so I can isolate a number of tables and users in a testing environment. How do you create a new instance of SQL on the same server?

    Run the installation from CD as you normally would and when you get to the screen where you choose a default instance or a named instance, the default instance checkbox should be grayed out.  Enter a name for the new instance and continue.  You'll want to specify a different file location for the new instance.  See "named instances" in BOL for step-by-step instructions.
