MSDE Install

    I have just installed MSDE 2000 on a laptop running XP Home. At first I received an error that SA must have a strong password. I then tried again with Blanksapwd=1. Now I'm unable to register this server using SQL Auth.

    Any thoughts

    By default, MSDE 2000 will use NT authentication only after successfully installed. If you like to change it to use SQL Server authentication, you can modify the registry key.

    Change the value to 2 in following key.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MSSQLSERVER\MSSQLSERVER\LOGINMODE
