moving from 7.0/NT to SQL Server 2000/Windows 2000

  • I have an old server running Windows NT 4.0 and SQL Server 7.0.  My bosses have decided to order a new server, which will have Windows 2000 and SQL Server 2000.  I know how to upgrade 7 to 2K on the same server and how to move an entire SQL Server to a new (identically configured) server.  However, I'm not sure how to move the complete installation to a new server running a different OS and different version of SQL Server.  Any advice would be much appreciated.

  • I don't think it would be that bad at all.  Because the way sql 7.0 works, you can just backup your 7.0 databases and restore it to your sql 2000 box.  You might want to try to restore master first and then the rest of the databases.  Good Luck.
