Though I must confess Frank - that after reading something like this it is sooooooooo nice to get back to SQL and be in command of SELECTS - GROUP BY - ORDER BY...
at least in the SQL world, we're in control! <;-)

Steve (Jones ie)...you should think of adding a flag maybe, to some of your topics to indicate any (potential) inflammatory content...
I know you had no idea (at least I don't think you did) that something like "Memorial Day" would set off any/some sparks...that being said I think almost any/every topic is a potential red rag to a bull...maybe you should just flag all of them and have each flag colored differently for different levels of heat (like a Thai menu !!!)

I knew this one would get some action, but I did want to remember our veterans. Everyone should remember their own veterans. Whether you agree with the cause or not, the people on the ground are those that were ordered to got there. They did their duty and in some cases died, whether they agreed or not.

I am from Germany. Not that I ever intend to do so as I simply don't care about it, but do you know or can you imagine what what will happen to me, when I publicly "remember our veterans"? A witchhunt sounds more tempting to me.
War is good for absolutely nothing but the defence industry. But it seems to lie somewhere within the human nature. There is an worth reading book by Ulrich Horstmann titled "Das Untier". I don't know if it is available in English, but if so, it would have a title like "The beast" or "The beast within". Really interesting insights into the human history.

...and don't forget, that is not the only War to remember in Germany's history. "They did their duty and in some cases died, whether they agreed or not." I have a friend in Germany and I know what you are saying. He let me know how sensitive it was to say certain things. However, contrary to belief, that is not always what we remember about Germany. Also, every country has to think they were on the wrong side at one time or another in history. "At least they've learnt from their mistakes and reformed....which's more than I can say for many other countries..."

Frank - I'll say this one last thing & STOP....
"Most pain to mankind"...is just not true...Stalin was pure evil and caused more deaths (didn't just target any specific groups either like a lot of dictators did)....
The bottom line...the sins of the fathers SHOULD NOT be visited upon the children....
