Hi Friends,
I am facing a waired problem with Maintenance Plans. When I am trying to open any task inside them they give below error:
The task with the name "Task Name XXX" and the creation name "Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.DatabaseMaintenance.DbMaintenanceFileXXXTask, Microsoft.SqlServer.MaintenancePlanTasks, Version=XXX, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=XXX" is not registered for use on this computer.
Earlier I was able to open all the tasks, this problem has started suddenly & I dont know the reason behind it. I hope if somebody else has ever faced it & has got some solution of it can give me some insight :-).
Note : Integration services are not installed on this box.
Regards,
Sujeet

Check the server version you are connecting to and the client tools version. You probably are using client tools that have not been updated to at least the same version as the server you are connecting to.
Also, make sure you are on at least SP2 with the patch to update the version to 9.00.3054. Ideally, you should be on SP4 with both the server version and the client tools.

Thanks for your instructions :-).
SQL Server version & Client tools version are same (9.00.3042.00). As I said earlier same is working fine, no idea why it stopped working all of a sudden.

Are you having problem on your workstation or the server? Meaning, where is SSMS running?
Have you tried opening the plan from another workstation?
Has the plan been opened by BIDS by chance?

Thanks for the reply Steve.
yes we are facing the problem on the SSMS installed on the server only. If we open the maintenance plans from some other SSMS, they are working fine.
I am not sure if they have been opened with BIDS, have to check with my team mates 😉
Is there any solution for it?

It sounds like a client tools issue on the server. Either some .DLL didn't register or got corrupted. You could try to uninstall the client tools and reinstall them, but that can be a pain on the server.

What is the client version on the client desktops that is working? It sounds to me like those are not the same version - probably been updated to a later version. If the plans are created with that later version, that would explain why you are having issues accessing the maintenance plans from the client on the server.
Either way - the version you are on has known issues with maintenance plans and should be upgraded to at least SP3 if not SP4.
