installing SQL Server 2005. what are the external recommendations and best practices ?

  • i folks,

i know this may be kind of common question, but what i am looking for is ur valuable experience.

what external and internal factors do u recommend ?

    disk space ?

having the system Databases in the same drive as windows is installed? is it good or bad ?

what disk space is good to have for a server running couple of 30GB DBs ?

    other external facts ?

    thanks in advance folks,

  • in a perfect world

    os c drive mirrored

    sql d drive mirrored

    tempdb e drive mirrored

    logs f drive mirrored

    data h drive raid 10

the h drive could have file groups for indexes or archives which

could make drives i and j raid 10 also

how fast is the data growing to determine size

  • well, I know that the databases must go in several raids, but where I can find documentation to support this? I have searched and have not found official information on this

Currently, the system administrator has all mdf, ldf files and system db into 1 single raid and I'm documenting information to change that.

    Best Regards,

    Fernando
