Installing SQL @005 Developer Edition to drive other than "C"

  • When trying to install SQL Server 2005 Dev Edition to my development machine I select the "D:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server" as the target. Next I check the disk cost and find that the installation is trying to write 1.4 GB +/- to my C drive and about 400 MB to my D.

I've uninstalled the CTP edition, I've uninstalled Visual Studio, and I've uninstalled SQL Server 2000. Now I have lot's of free space (not 1.4 GB), but I still can't figure out why the installation is still targetting my C drive.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

    Thanks.

  • I was having the same issue. If you expend all the file tree listings out you will see a common directory that it wants to wite to the C drive. You will need to change that loaction as well.

    Hoe this helps.

  • Thanks for the response, Harold.

In my case, I don't have the opportunity to change the target of Client Components, which requires 1.4 GB. The options on the "Change Folder" page are all greyed out.

I assume you're talkng about changing the directory during the install and not editing one of the installation files.

    Any other ideas?

  • Could this be updates to prerequisites like the .NET framework?
