Install help

  • Hi everyone

I've been having problems installing SQL Server Express 2008 R2. The problem is that I keep getting an error 2908 everytime. I think this is due to an incomplete uninstall of SQL Server 2005. I get the same error every time. I've tried using Windows Installer Cleanup Utility, third party uninstallers, and manually cleaning the registry as best I can. Nothing seems to work. Can anyone help?

    Error Messages:

  • I had a problem similar to this when I installed SQL 2008, but it was on the Enterprise Edition. I forgot to remove Visual Studio 2005. Once I uninstalled VS completely, the install for SQL 2008 worked. Have you removed all VS 2k5 files as well? (I was also on Win7 Professional 64bit which has issues in and of itself...)

If you are really good at registry cleanup, then a manual approach is probably best. But if you want some help capturing all SQL files and removing them cleanly, you can try using REVO Uninstaller. you can grab it Download.com.

Use extreme caution. This product will CLEAN OUT EVERYTHING relating to SQL (or any program for that matter) so make sure you read all the prompts and options before preceding.
