Incremental and Differential

    We use Tivoli Data Protection for our SQL database backups. For backups done with the TDP parameter DIFF, I see 'Database differential changes backed up' in the errorlog on our SQL2K server and 'Database incremental changes backed up' on our SQL7 server. Are these the same? (backing up all changes since the last full backup?)

    Since ur using 3rd party util, better verify it with your vendor whether their interpretation is the same. I am not sure whether your vendor is using SQL Server commands to backup the db or not, or maybe they have their own system just like SQL BackTrack.

    SQL Server though use the term 'Differential' Backup.

    Yes both are same; Incremental is nothing but the Differential backup
