How to install SQL Server SP4 on a Cluster environment???

  • The /PASSIVE option is also useful when a new node is added.

I have used that option to apply Service Packs to NEW passive nodes with out affecting the Active node or risking a Active Server reboot.

  • Chaps.

Thank you all the your responses to this. I applied the SP4 to the UAT instance first (this instance shares the same cluster as production). I then applied the SP to PROD last weekend infact and installed on both active first and then passive cluster.

    So far so good.

I have learn't so much and had no idea about the /passive command but will keep this in mind for future releases.
