how know SQL Edition from install files?

  • I wonder if anyone knows how to find sql edition from install files w/o actually installing sql server?

I have disk with SQL 2008 install files on it.I would like to know the files are for Ent or Std or dev?

    Anyhelp?

    Thanks.

  • I downloaded my Developer edition iso file from MSDN the day of RTM and it says. So if you copy the files to your c drive you should be able to find out the edition. If not run setup and you will see the edition.

  • Check the file version of any dll files under setup folder. It will help you in identifying the edition. For example:9.00.1399.06 is RTM Edition. A type of guess....

RTM is release to manufacture version not edition because Microsoft at least for the MSDN download created an AnyCPU build which means one can be installed in all operating system.

Anything 9 is SQL Server 2005 which is for Tabular Data Stream 90, so for 2008 it will be 100.
