HELP! Permission in SQL-Server-2008R2 to create SSAS-Database

  • Hi all,

during SS2008R2-setup I missed to add the group OLAP-Developer to local admins. According to that OLAP developers now can't create a new SSAS database, though they belong to the windows-administator-group. I re-ran the setup from DVD whitout success. What can I do?

    Please help 🙁

  • Anybody out there?

I made a "normal" SQL-Server2008R2 setup. But now anybody else than "Administrator" can create SSAS-Databases. Diffenent from SS2005

  • Why don't you add the windows administrators group to the SSAS administrators role?

  • Hi Koen,

thank's for answering. Can't find SSAS administrators role in "Server-Manager/Roles"

    Ralf

  • Log into the SSAS service. Right-click on the server, go to properties. In the security tab, you can add SSAS administrators. (but only an SSAS administrator can do this of course)

  • Koen!

Thank You. This works! but now there is no way to hide other user's SSAS-databases, because all OLAP Developer are admins. All Developer can access all databases. But anyway.

    have a nice weekend

I said it will work, not that it will be elegant 🙂

Alternatively you can have one person who creates the databases and then assign read/write permissions to the corresponding developers. But that makes maintenance even harder...
