    Besides using xp_cmdshell is there anyway in SQL server to export XML. I need to place the xml in a folder on the server. I'm new to SQL server so if you have any basic examples it would be appreciated.

    DTS is pretty powerful if you have time to learn it. I haven't produced XML for export, but, depending on what you are doing with the result, this might be an option for you.

    you could try using the dts activex component to create an ado xml stream to export your data.
