    Is there a way to tell how long a DTS package took to complete?

    If you are on SQL 2000, you can turn on Package Logging. Then you can get timings on package and step execution from the msdb database.

    sysdtspackagelog - cotains package execution details

    sysdtssteplog - contains step execution details

    how do you turn on package logging? when i try to go view the log for a package, i get an empty pull-down list.

    Bring up the package properties and select the "Logging" tab. Then you can specify a server to log to.
