Delayed Durability and Availability Groups

  • Have looked around and haven't seen anything about this so would like to pose this question to you all.

We have SQL 2014 servers that are not using AG.  We recently enabled Delayed Durability (after doing everything else to help with writelog wait times....and we do know about the trade off with using Delayed Durability) and it is working as expected.  Have seen a dramatic decrease in writelog wait time.

Now the question is, we have two SQL 2016 instances that are participating in AG.  They hold the same databases as the SQL 2014 server.  Can/Should we enable Delayed Durability if AG is being used?  Has anyone tried this and had any success/failures?

    Thank you all!!!  Happy Friday!!!

  • It works with all HA/DR solutions including AlwaysOn. Log blocks are not copied to secondary replicas until it is flushed on primary replica(even in synchronous configuration). So there is a risk of data loss
