Default location for backup via Maintenance Plan

  • Hello all,

I created a maintenance plan that makes backup on a network location.

Yesterday I changed the maintenance plan because one database had to be removed from the backup list.

Today I find that the backups were stored on the local disk instead of the network disk.

Could it be that SQL2005 is automatically using a default location? I know I should've checked the backup location, but I didn't.

Is it possible to set the backup location for maintenance plan backups?

    tia,

    Hans

  • Hi

you can set a backup location in the maint.plans.

Which service pack are you running on. There were some problems with maint.plans which have been sorted out in service packs. dont know abt this though.

    "Keep Trying"

  • I am using SQL2005 Standard Edition SP1.

In the meantime, I found the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQLServer\BackupDirectory

that holds the default location, but somehow it seems to me a bit crude way to set a new default location.

  • Probably you have defined the default option as the backup folder. In the maint. plan , in the 'define Backup Database option' , you can define the path for the network drive
