Can't log out.

  • I have this Microsoft Management Console running since Friday. It came up when I was trying to log out Friday before I left work and it is Monday and it's still there. I can't do anything on that server. one user is already logged in so I asked the 2nd user to log in to the server and try to kick me out but that user ended up getting an error. Is there any way to resolve this issue. Please see the attachment!

  • Hi,

Can you not go to task manager and kill MMC.exe?

    Hi,

Can you not go to task manager and kill MMC.exe?

And in the worst case scenario you could just turn off and restart the computer (hold the powerbutton for 5+ seconds)

Maybe just flip the power switch on the power strip? 😀

  • Would someone be able to use admin console of remote desktop and kick you out?

Could you use other computer and use pscmd, pslist and pskill?

On a server? Are you serious?:w00t:

Yes on the server. I asked one of co-worker to RDP into the server and kick me out but he ended up getting an error "User DBA can't be logged off Access is denied". I have 8 clients on that server and I can't just restart it. Any more suggestions.

That wasn't meant for you, it was meant for HanShi suggesting to turn it off.

I completely understand that a server shouldn't be restarted unless all alternatives have failed.

I'm sorry that I can't help but this is out of my expertise area.

Hey, I did mention: worst case scenario 😉

But to be honest: I didn't read the OP completely and thought it was a workstation.

Back on topic: From another server you can open up "Terminal Server Manager". This is available on Windows 2003 server, I don't know if it is still (default) available on a Windows 2008 server. With this tool you can connect to the server in question and disconnect, logoff and/or reset the rogue session.

  • Is your co-worker an administrator on the machine in question? If not do you have another co-worker that either does have admin privileges to the server, or perhaps someone else that can temporarily grant him administrative privileges (Although technically if such a person exists you could probably just ask them to hop on a console session and log off your hung session).
