My SQL Server databases are running fine, but when I open BIDS to try to work in SSIS, it is painfully slow. Any ideas on what could be causing this or any ideas on what to check to improve the speed? Thanks

Is it only slow when you have an SSIS project open, or is Visual Studio itself slow?
Visual Studio is a pretty bad memory hog, so making sure you have enough memory on the development machine is pretty important - especially if you have large packages you are trying to open.
Do you have any 3rd paty add-in's installed? Poorly written visual studio add-ins can cause major performance issues.

I did have Management Studio running at the same time, so I will close that and try it. I will also check the memory. There isn't actually much running on that box.

you should create a new project and uncheck to check boxes that comes to -CREATE DIRECTORY FOR SOLUTION.
Then you shud add your packages and try working on it...I think it will be a lot better.
