  • I don't know that certs will help in your career. They might, they might not.

There was a recent discussion related to that on this site. Check out:

  • I've been a DBA for 8 years (will be 9 years in March), and my best cert is ... I don't have any. So, I really don't see them as being critical.

Find out from local employers what they consider important. Ask HR people and IT managers. If they are considered important wherever you are, those are the people who will be able to answer.

  • Check out the forum on certification.

If you can't decide what you want to be what would be the point in taking any cert? Of course a cert really means little in most jobs, it's just (or should be) a validation of the skills that you already have, and have worked on.

  • I've been a DBA, exclusively, for about 10 years now and no certification whatsoever. You just don't need one. Knowledge and experience are what really counts. If you have three years experience, and can demonstrate that it's not just 6 months experience repeated 6 times, you should be able to get an entry level position (assuming you can find one).

  • I've been working with SQL Server for about 12 years, no certs here either. Would not mind getting them as a validation, but i think experience says a lot more than a certification.
