Backup strategy when using Replication

  • Has anyone had any experience (good or bad) of using the replication db option 'sync with backup'.

It helps to keep publisher, distribution and subscriber dbs consistent should recovery be required.

I have read about and experimented with it, and it seems to work ok on a test environment. I am about to implement on live.

Other than the basic documentation in SQL BOL (under "Strategies for Backing Up and Restoring Transactional Replication") I have not found much reference to this feature.

  • I have used before and never had problems.

You should keep in mind, that until you don't backup the log of the published database, transactions won't be delivered to the distribution database, so transactions won't be delivered to the subscribers.
