backup & restoring

  • hi,

it posible to restore the data in sql enterprises version, If i had taken backup in sql standard edition.

  • I think so. Just do this

    1. Take a copy of the backup file. Right click COPY command and save it in different name

    2. Restore this backup file in SQL Server enterprise version.

  • Restoring user database should be fine between the editions where as you can't restore system databses.

  • I restore user databases between Standard and Enterprise version al the time. If both servers are running the same version you can move database back and forth without issue . However if the source server is is running a lesser version then the target server then the move is only one way.

System databases can also be moved (recovered) as well with a bitmore effort. The biggenst caveat here is that the versions must be an exact match - i.e SP and hot fixes. You'll also have to be aware with msdb if the source server was an MSX server.
