If riding in a plane is flying, then riding in a boat must be swimming. To experience the element, get out of the vehicle. Skydive!

  • Inteliview is pretty good. Not quite as many features but then it doesn't cost quite as much as CR!

Growing old is mandatory, growing up is optional

  • Do they have a website?

  • try www.intelliview.com, also ActiveReports at http://www.datadynamics.com/arnet/default.htm, which is very good, and from what i recall pretty cheap as well.

  • At a higher price point, look at Brio, Cognos, Business Objects.

  • Also Microstrategy has some fine reporting tools that are comparable to Business Objects and others.

However, the best tool IMO is the SQL Server Reporting Services software that Microsoft is due to release soon. Why buy a third-party tool when you can have your reporting integrated into SQL Server (and maybe for free) ?

  • Hi check, out recrystalise, its meant to be a much lower license cost. However lacks some of the easy to use features of Chrystal.

  • Isnt recrystalize just a web publishing add on for crystal reports?

I have decided to wait for the release of Reporting services for sql server comes out and for now am sticking with crystal 8.0.

link for microsfts product due to be released sometime next year is below.

  • SyBase/PowerSoft InfoMaker may be worth a look. Not too expensive and has a few good tricks up its sleave. Especially the latest version.

  • For our web product, our company chose Active Reports by Data Dynamics as an alternative to Crystal Reports.

  • Actuate (www.actuate.com) may be overkill - no idea what you're after.

Much more powerful reporting tool than any of the above, but is also a server based tool that is not for the casual user.

  • We are using Business Objects and their web component, Web Intelligence here for reporting from our data warehouse.

    Cheers,

    Angela

  • We have integrated Business Objects to retrieve data from DB2/UNIX and SQL Server7/NT.

    .

  • what exactly is 'business objects'? here can i find info on it?
