accessing sql 2000 personal edition DB from an app

  • Hello

I'm quite new to SQL. We have converted our portfolio mgmt software to the SQL 2000 version.  It seems ready to go to production.  The 3 techs here (i am included) have installed sql 2000 personal edition on our pc's, created an icon on our desktops (xp sp2) with the required parameters and we access the new version.

I have not heard any mention of ODBC in all our accessing etc.

So, my question is, do we need to install sql 2000 personal on every pc that will access or, is this app maybe just accessible via the app's dll's etc on the server install?

In case anyone is familiar, the software is Portia 7

    Thanks

  • Normally only the application should be updated to reflect the new data source.  After that assuming all the permissions are set correctly, the aplication should be accessible to everyone.

  • thx for the reply.  I don't understand what you mean by the app being "updated"?

i think what we need to do is install a small client piece + register one ocx

  • Application =  "portfolio mgmt software"

Does it have a central datasource or does it use a local database?
