Here we are, the last Friday of 2008, and I thought I'd make it a simple, easy poll.
Traditionally the New Year should bring about resolutions, change, and goals for the next year. While we might not stick with them, it doesn't ever seem to defer us from making new ones each year, often with the best of intentions of turning over a new leaf and improving our lives.
So for the last Friday poll of 2008:
What News Year's Resolution would you make to improve your career in the next year?
Let us know what you'd like to improve in the next year that will help you with your current career, or in the career that you want to have. Perhaps you want to change careers, or move to a new job, and have plans to move things along. Perhaps you want to get a raise, or get more responsibility, or somehow make your current job more enjoyable.
For me, I think I want to move a little more back into the technical world. I write about data and SQL Server and other issues all the time, but I find myself getting further and further removed from writing code and dealing with SQL Server issues. So one of my new year's resolutions is to find a project and do some real work on it using SQL Server and practicing code.
I also feel a little more responsibility to support the community more and do a bit more speaking. Typically I've hesitated to speak at most events, not wanting to take a slot that someone else might be able to use. So I don't submit presentations to PASS or most other events. I did a few user group and SQL Saturday presentations this past year, and I'll try to do a few more next year.
So let us know. Maybe this will help motivate you to write it in public, or maybe you'll inspire someone else to create or stick to their resolution.
