SQLSaturday #5 & #6 Update

,

SQLSaturday #5 in Olympia is progressing nicely. Greg, Russ, and team have locked in a venue and with registration just announced to the local user group already have more than 30 registered. Current focus is on speakers, if you're in the area or know someone in the area please let them know about the event! As expected we're learning a lot of lessons as we coach the event and hopefully that will make it even easier to launch events in other cities in 2009.

SQLSaturday #6 has been rescheduled tentatively for early Feb in Cleveland. Anyone interested in attending/speaking should continue to register and we'll send out an update in mid October on the new day for 2009.

For information about both events, see old events, or vote for one to come to your area visit www.sqlsaturday.com!

One of the lessons we knew we'd have to learn is that not all events will go as planned, but we're on a quest for good rather than perfect. Do we recycle #5 and point it to a different event? Only assign numbers when we're dead certain the event will happen? For now our plan is if an event totally folds we'll just mark the event as 'didn't happen' just to avoid confusion, ie, was #27 Dallas or Kalamazoo? The advantage to that is we can give the organizers more time to work an event, a good example being SQLSat #7 in Birmingham next year. They are really early in the planning cycle and we encourage a good six month lead time into the first event, we can't send a mixed message and only set up a site when they are 3 months into their prep!
